Our Pastors

Senior Pastor, Dr. Jim Wilson

Dr. Jim Wilson is the senior Pastor at Esperanza First. The Wilson family moved from Raleigh, NC under the supervision of Open Door Baptist Church to plant Esperanza in April, 2005. Pastor Wilson received his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastor Wilson also holds the rank of 4th Dan/Master in Taekwondo and he is the Senior Instructor of our Taekwondo ministry. In addition, Pastor Wilson teaches Ethics and History of Philosophy at SWTJC in Del Rio.

Associate Pastor, Jesse Rodriguez

Pastor Jesse is a Del Rio native, who after many years in Tennessee and Kansas finally returned to his roots. After being called to serve as pastor at First Baptist, he helped lead the congregation through revilization and replanting material that eventually led to a merge with Esperanza–now Esperanza First! Pastor Jesse leads Adult Sunday School, discipleship, the church boxing program, and benevolence. He and his wife, Bethany, homeschool their four kids and are heavily involved in our Enrichment classes.

Assistant Pastor Phillip Scheller leads the Middle & High School Youth ministry and oversees the Deacons. With his wife, Anna, they teach the youth group and are Black belt instructors in the Tae Kwon Do program. He is a retired Air Force pilot and current Flight Simulator Instructor with over 35 years of military flight experience. Both originally from Washington State, they arrived in Del Rio in 1999 and have raised seven children.
